Our trip to Hyatt Ziva Cancun was meant to be a birthday getaway for my husband, but it ended up being so much more than we expected! We unknowingly booked our vacation over Mexican Independence Day weekend, and we were lucky enough to experience this incredible celebration firsthand. Hyatt Ziva went all out with festivities, turning our trip into an unforgettable cultural experience that was fun for the whole family. Here’s how we celebrated Mexican Independence Day at the resort with our two young kids, and why it’s now one of our favorite travel memories.
A Cultural and Festive Atmosphere
As soon as we arrived at the resort, we could see that Mexican Independence Day is a big deal here. The entire outdoor area of the hotel was beautifully decorated with Mexican flags, vibrant colors, and festive lights. You could feel the excitement in the air, and it was contagious!
One of the highlights of the day was the Mayan blessing ceremony we participated in that morning. It was such a meaningful experience, and I loved that my kids got to witness this beautiful cultural ritual. It was a special way to start the day and made us feel connected to the rich heritage of the region.
Fun for the Kids: The Foam Party
After the ceremony, the resort hosted a foam party for the kids, which was an absolute blast. They had music, dancing, and even dress-up characters, making it feel like a mini fiesta just for the little ones. Our kids had a fantastic time playing in the foam, dancing to fun songs, and watching the lively entertainment. It was so much fun seeing our kids in their element, laughing and enjoying every second.
A Traditional Mexican Feast
Later in the evening, the hotel put on a special Mexican Independence Day dinner that blew us away. The outdoor dining area was transformed with tables covered in elegant linens, and there were at least 20 food booths offering authentic Mexican dishes. We were treated to fresh tacos, al pastor shaved from a spit, and even a whole roasted pig that had been cooking all day. My kids loved exploring the dessert and candy stations, filled with traditional Mexican treats.
One of the most memorable moments was when our son got to ride a mechanical bull—which was a hilarious and fun experience for him. The resort also organized a piñata for the kids, adding a classic Mexican tradition to the festivities.
Music, Dancing, and Fireworks
The night didn’t end with just the feast. We were treated to live music from Mariachi bands and singers, along with traditional Mexican dancers performing under the stars. My kids were mesmerized by the beautiful, colorful costumes and the incredible dancing. To top it all off, there was a fireworks display that lit up the sky, closing the night with a magical touch.
Appreciation for the Hardworking Staff
One thing that stood out to me during this celebration was how hard the staff worked to make this event special for all the guests. It’s important to note that Mexican Independence Day is a holiday where most people would be off celebrating with their families, yet the staff at Hyatt Ziva Cancun worked tirelessly to share this cultural experience with us. We were so appreciative of their efforts that we made sure to tip generously to thank them for making the day so memorable for our family.
Why We’d Return Just for Mexican Independence Day
This experience was such a fun and unexpected surprise for us, and it made our stay even more special. Our kids loved every part of the celebration, from the foam party to the piñata and fireworks. For us, it was a perfect blend of family-friendly fun and cultural exposure, and we couldn’t have asked for a better way to celebrate both my husband’s birthday and Mexican Independence Day.
Honestly, I would come back to Hyatt Ziva Cancun every year just to experience this holiday celebration again. It was so well done, and the sense of community and joy was something we’ll never forget.
If you’re planning a trip to Hyatt Ziva Cancun, I highly recommend timing it around Mexican Independence Day for a truly unique and festive experience. Whether you’re traveling with kids or not, the resort’s celebrations will make your vacation unforgettable!
