Our recent family trip to the Andaz Papagayo in Costa Rica was nothing short of magical. From the stunning sunsets to the luxury amenities, every moment was filled with joy and relaxation. Here are our top five tips to make your stay at this beautiful resort even more enjoyable:
1. Dine at Chao Pescao at Sunset
One of our favorite experiences was dining at Chao Pescao during sunset. Request a table by the water to enjoy breathtaking views while savoring delicious cuisine. The ambiance is perfect for a family meal, and the setting sun over the ocean creates an unforgettable dining experience. I really liked the food at Chao Pescao the best!
2. IF YOU HAVE GLOBALIST STATUS, Enjoy Breakfast at Ostra Every Day
As Globalists, we had the pleasure of enjoying breakfast at Ostra every morning. The food is fantastic, and the serene setting makes for a great start to the day. The variety and quality of the breakfast options cater to all tastes, ensuring everyone in the family starts their day satisfied.
3. Take the Speed Boat to the Beach
Make sure to take advantage of the speed boat service to the beach. The ride itself is a fun adventure, and once you arrive, you can enjoy free amenities like snorkels and paddleboards. It’s a great way to explore the beautiful waters and marine life of Costa Rica. Just be aware of the times they close in the middle of the day.
4. Use the Golf Cart Service
The resort is expansive, and walking from one end to the other can be tiring, especially with kids. Whenever you need to get around, simply dial zero or ask any hotel staff to request a golf cart. This service is incredibly convenient and helps you save energy for more fun activities.
5. Sun Protection is Key
Costa Rica is known for its warm climate, and sun protection is essential. The sun can be intense, so wearing a shirt and reapplying sunscreen frequently is crucial. Despite applying sunscreen twice on our first day, I still got sunburned, so take extra precautions to protect your skin.
Bonus Tips
- Family Accommodations: If you’re traveling with family, request Building 7 near Rio Bhongo and the family pool. For couples, especially Globalists, staying near Ostra and the adult pool offers a more serene experience.
- Currency and Payments: We used USD throughout our trip with no issues. Even at a local bakery, we paid with a credit card and were never asked to choose the currency.
- Room Amenities: The standard rooms are spacious, and the complimentary snacks and drinks are a nice touch. We loved the coconut welcome drink and the chocolate treats in our room.
- Tipping: The staff at Andaz Papagayo goes above and beyond to ensure a luxurious experience. We found ourselves tipping more than usual because of the excellent service and the numerous helpful staff members.
- Beach Area and Transportation: The beach area includes a restaurant and pool. Note that the boat service pauses from 12-2pm, so plan accordingly. While we used the shuttle a couple of times, we preferred the boat for its scenic and enjoyable ride.
